How natural disasters can encourage development of a country?
Q. This is a school geography project. It asks about how can natural disasters help a country's development. I couldn't find any examples of it. It would be very helpful if someone could find an example.

A. I'm looking at this from two points of view. 1. Preparedness Countries that are prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes and hurricanes would need to have systems in place before the disasters to alleviate stress on the existing systems. As such the said countries may invest in better construction practices and materials for constructing buildings which may be used as shelters or even for hospitals. These would have to be inspected and meet certain regulations and standards. Investment may come in the form of advanced communication systems or health care and emergency response procedures. 2. After the diaster The UN and other government bodies tend to assist countries that are struck by diasasters. Therefore a relationship is… [cont.]
